Lyn Allgood began his legal career in 1978 when he returned to Augusta, his hometown, to join Allgood and Childs, a firm founded in 1952 by his late father, Tom Allgood, Sr. Mr. Allgood became partner of the firm in 1981 and concentrated his practice on insurance defense litigation.
In 1988, Mr. Allgood was a founding partner of Allgood and Daniel, a firm dedicated to specializing in civil litigation, primarily involving insurance defense and select personal injury, wrongful death and medical negligence claims.
In 1995, Mr. Allgood was chosen by Governor Zell Miller to serve as a Superior Court Judge for the Augusta Judicial Circuit. Mr. Allgood served the people of Georgia in this capacity until 2003 when he retired to return to private practice. During his eight (8) years of service, Mr. Allgood was re-elected twice, being unopposed both times. He served as Chief Judge of the Domestic Division of the Augusta Circuit during which a case assignment system was developed and implemented, a first for the Augusta Circuit. He also served as Chairman of the Bench Bar Committee for the Council of Superior Court Judges and co-chaired the State Bar of Georgia’s Bench Bar Committee.
Since Mr. Allgood’s return to private practice in July 2003, he has focused his practice almost exclusively on healthcare issues involving payment of patient accounts.
Mr. Allgood has also served as a mediator in over 200 cases since 2003. He was recognized for this service by his peers in the 2010 edition of Best Lawyers in Georgia.
Mr. Allgood graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1974 receiving a B.A. degree in Political Science. He received his Juris Doctorate degree from Emory University in 1978. In 1998, he received a General Jurisdiction Certificate from the National Judicial College. He is currently licensed to practice in all Georgia and South Carolina Courts including the Georgia Supreme Court, Georgia Court of Appeals, South Carolina Supreme Court, South Carolina Court of Appeals and all trial courts in both states. He is also licensed to practice in all Federal District Courts in Georgia and South Carolina as well as the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Mr. Allgood served as President of the Augusta Bar Association during 2006. He also serves on the State Bar of Georgia’s Statewide Judicial Evaluation Committee, Foundation of Freedom Commission and the Bench Bar Committee. He is a 2000 graduate of Leadership Georgia and a Fellow of the Lawyer’s Foundation of Georgia. In 2005, the Augusta Bar Association awarded him its first annual Service Award, named in his honor.
Mr. Allgood has received and held an “AV” rating from Martindale Hubbell for many years. During his 30 years of practice, he has been lead counsel or Presiding Judge in over 300 jury trials.
Mr. Allgood is married to the former Terri Daniels of Columbia, South Carolina. They are blessed with two children, Sara Terese, a 2003 graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology and Wilson Forrest, a 2004 graduate of the University of Georgia.
